About The Organiser
“Law Seed” is an organization that believes in the accountability of law students in changing society. The organization was started by a team of legal fraternity in 2019 and now it is actively working for the welfare and betterment of society. Since its inception the organization has been working to address several social issues through various academic activities among law students, thereby creating opportunities to disseminate legal awareness amongst the masses.
About The Competition
Law Seed is hosting its 1st National Legislative Drafting Competition, 2023. This competition provides a platform where the best minds can come forward and critically utilize this opportunity of curating and drafting legislative bills while experiencing the nuances of framing the law. The aim is to encourage the students towards the process of law-making and governance.
The objective of the competition is to provide a platform for brilliant minds to undertake analytical research of laws related to different jurisdictions and to come up with intellectually driven provisions that can be implemented within the Indian framework. Legislative drafting helps individuals to enhance their knowledge, implementation, and interpretation of the law and nurtures their ability to identify the current challenges in-laws and suggest solutions. The competition seeks to provide a platform for the exchange of ideas and experience & invites law students and legal practitioners to draft legislation.
Topic For The Competition
Participants have to draft legislation titled “Same-Sex Marriage.”
As per the Competition purpose, the Supreme Court of India has passed a judgment which legalized the same-sex-marriage and directed the legislative body to draft legislation on “Same-Sex-Marriage”. The draft legislation has to mainly focus on the validity of marriage, definitions, registration of marriage, conjugal rights, judicial separation, divorce, punishments for cruelty or harassment, adoption, maintenance, etc.
Through this competition, the organization seeks to create awareness of having a proper legislation that is dedicated to promote and protect the rights and ensure proper safeguards to a victim. The Centre aims that through this competition, a solution can be found that can help in providing assistance to these aspects and protection to the victims. The Bill should also cover those provisions that the drafters find incidental or ancillary to the topic of the Bill and thinks that certain provisions should come under the main theme of the competition.
Eligibility
The Competition is open to all law students pursuing LLM or LLB. (3-Year or 5-Year course from a recognized university within the territory of India).
Team Composition
- Participants may register as individuals or in a team of two.
- There is no restriction on the number of entries from any college or university. Multiple teams can participate from a single university.

- The Winner – Trophy + Certificate + Cash prize.
- The Runner Up – Trophy + Certificate + Cash prize.
- The Second Runner Up – Trophy + Certificate + Cash prize.
- The top 10 best drafters will get Merit Certificate.

- Registration Ends 29th July 2023.
- The last date to Seek Clarification is 31st July 2023.
- Release of Clarifications (if any) 01st August 2023.
- Submission Date 06th August 2023.
- Result in Declaration 19th August 2023.
