The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) under the Ministry of Home Affairs is inviting applications for the post of Senior Public Prosecutor (Sr. PP). This is a high-responsibility position for experienced advocates to represent the NCB on a contractual basis, contributing to legal proceedings related to narcotics and drug enforcement.
Key Position Information

- Number of Vacancies: 1 (for each regional office, e.g., Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata; refer to specific notice)
- Place of Posting: Posts are open at various zonal offices of the NCB, including Mumbai, Chennai, and Kolkata, depending on the current vacancy.
- Engagement Type: Contract (initially for 3 years or until the appointment of a regular Sr. PP, whichever is earlier).
Essential Eligibility Criteria
- Advocacy Experience:
- Must be an advocate with 10 years or more experience at the Bar.
- Legal Skills Required:
- Deep familiarity with prosecution of criminal and NDPS (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances) cases.
- Record of effective courtroom advocacy and working with law enforcement agencies is highly desirable.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Prosecute court cases for the designated NCB zone.
- Provide legal advice on investigations during enquiries by NCB teams.
- Guide officers in improving the quality of evidence gathered during investigations.
- Develop expertise in presenting the prosecution’s case in court.
- Monitor progress, maintain and submit court diaries.
- Perform other legal duties as may be assigned by NCB officials.
Terms of Engagement
- Tenure: Three (3) years contract or till a regular appointment is made, whichever is earlier.
- Remuneration: Approximately ₹1,00,000 per month (consolidated). No additional allowances such as HRA, medical, LTC are provided except TA/DA as per entitlement.
- Restrictions:
- Private practice during tenure is not allowed.
- Must enter a contract with confidentiality, integrity, and non-compete clauses.
- One month’s advance notice is required for termination by either party.
- Immediate handover of charge/records required upon termination/expiry of contract.
