About the Seminar

Assisted Reproductive Technology is developed as an advanced medical science miracle to assist conception and pregnancy. It is used as a guarantee for the cure of infertility everywhere. These techniques are designed to assist both medical and social infertility. It is used indisputably in assisting human reproduction for all simple processes (like IUI) to complex processes (like IVF, ICSI, etc.) It has gained fast growth in India in comparison to other countries of the world. Indian Government policies promote medical tourism in India. In response, a well-versed infertility industry got established in India providing the best and cheap services for ART and Surrogacy arrangements. Infertility among Indian couples is rising due to various reasons at one end and at the other end doors for foreign nationals are open to facilitate ARTs and surrogacy arrangements in India (up to 2012).  In fact, India has developed as one of the best destinations for ART services.   Internationally, The Global Assisted Reproductive Market size is expected to grow from 26.28 billion in 2021 to $31.29 billion in 2022 at a compound annual growth rate of 19.1% (ETHealthWorld.com 16 Jan 2022). Indian IVF is growing at a CAGR of 28% and is expected to be around INR 495 crore by 2022. The worst part is that such a large industry was running without legal regulations for more than two decades in India.  It was merely regulated by the guidelines issued by the Indian Council of Medical Research (National Guidelines for Accreditation, Supervision, and Regulation of ART Clinics 2008). Recently, Assisted Reproductive Technology (Regulation) Act 2021 and Surrogacy (Regulation) Act was passed in Dec 2021.

With all its merits the use of Assisted Reproductive Technology is always subject to public debate for its ethical and legal issues. ART industry is working on an experimental basis without certainty of success or even in some cases without the probability of success.  Therefore it is required to explore, discuss, the research asked, suggest, reform, analyze, and criticize the area of application, relevance, scope, and limitations of ART.
