The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Cuttack invites applications for the following contractual positions under the Legal Aid Defense Counsel System:
Available Positions
- Chief Legal Aid Defense Counsel – 01 Post
- Deputy Chief Legal Aid Defense Counsel – 03 Posts
- Assistant Legal Aid Defense Counsel – 03 Posts
Eligibility Criteria
Chief Legal Aid Defense Counsel
- Minimum 10 years’ experience in criminal law practice.
- Proven record of handling at least 30 criminal trials in Sessions Courts (relaxable in deserving cases).
- Strong command of criminal law and excellent communication (oral & written).
- Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to manage a legal team.
- Familiarity with ethical obligations of a defense counsel.
- Proficiency in computer applications is desirable.
Deputy Chief Legal Aid Defense Counsel
- Minimum 7 years’ experience in criminal law practice.
- Must have handled at least 20 criminal trials in Sessions Courts (relaxable in exceptional cases by Hon’ble Executive Chairman, SLSA).
- Excellent understanding of criminal law and legal ethics.
- Proficiency in legal research and drafting.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Working knowledge of IT systems and legal software.
Assistant Legal Aid Defense Counsel
- 1 to 3 years of experience in criminal law practice.
- Sound knowledge of legal ethics and criminal law.
- Strong research and drafting skills.
- Good communication abilities (written and oral).
- IT proficiency is essential.
