Key roles and responsibilities
Commercial contract drafting and negotiation
The core of the role lies in high-quality commercial contracting:
- Draft, vet, and maintain templates for a spectrum of commercial contracts including vendor agreements, service contracts, business collaboration agreements, product licence agreements, MoUs, letters of intent, NDAs, teaming agreements, reseller agreements, and master services agreements.
- Lead or support negotiations with counterparties’ attorneys and business stakeholders to finalize commercially and legally balanced contract documentation.
- Continuously refine and update template suites to reflect evolving law, industry practice, and EaseMyTrip’s risk appetite, thereby shortening negotiation cycles.
Legal document management and advisory
- Oversee maintenance, indexing, and secure storage of all legal agreements and key legal documents, ensuring that the legal department has an organized and searchable repository.
- Provide well-researched legal advice to business teams on queries relating to general corporate and commercial laws, including contract performance, termination, liability, and indemnity exposure.
- Support senior management with strategic legal inputs on new business models, partnerships, and market entries, explaining legal implications of proposed strategies.
Compliance oversight and regulatory support
- Monitor applicable laws and regulations affecting EaseMyTrip’s operations (including e-commerce, consumer protection, data/privacy, advertising, and sectoral norms) and ensure the company’s policies and practices remain compliant.
- Work with internal stakeholders (operations, product, finance, HR, compliance) to embed legal requirements into processes and SOPs, reducing regulatory and litigation risk.
Intellectual property rights (IPR) management
- Collaborate closely with product and marketing teams to identify patentable ideas and protect new features and innovations, where relevant to the travel-tech model.
- Conduct patent and prior art searches, basic infringement checks, and coordinate with IP agents for filings where appropriate.

- Undertake comprehensive legal research on emerging issues (such as new consumer-protection guidelines or cross-border e-commerce regulations) to support negotiations and policy decisions.
- Train and mentor junior legal team members and interface teams (procurement, sales, product) on contract hygiene, risk spotting, and compliance basics through internal workshops and sessions.

- Has a 2–7 year track record of working as in-house counsel or in a law firm with strong exposure to corporate/commercial contracts, preferably with global or services-sector clients.
- Is comfortable working with US and international contract structures, including standard clauses on limitation of liability, warranties, IP ownership, data protection, and dispute resolution.
- Shows a balance of meticulous black-letter drafting and pragmatic, business-friendly problem solving, with the ability to support fast product iterations and deal turnarounds in a competitive travel-tech market.
