About AP High Court

The Andhra State was formed after separating from the erstwhile Madras State in the year 1954. The High Court for the Andhra State, with its principal seat at Guntur, was established in the year 1954 with Hon’ble Sri Justice Koka Subba Rao as the first Chief Justice.

In 1956, the Hyderabad State and the Andhra State were merged to form the State of Andhra Pradesh. The High Court of Andhra Pradesh was established with its principal seat at Hyderabad with 11 Hon’ble Judges. Hon’ble Sri Justice Koka Subba Rao was the first Chief Justice of this High Court.

The State of Andhra Pradesh was bifurcated, in the year 2014, into the States of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. The High Court at Hyderabad was designated as the Common High Court for the States of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh w.e.f., 02.06.2014, and continued to function from Hyderabad.

The High Court for the State of Andhra Pradesh came into existence by an order dated 26.12.2018. The High Court of Andhra Pradesh started functioning, with its principal seat at Amaravati, from 01.01.2019 with 14 Hon’ble Judges. Hon’ble Sri Justice C. Praveen Kumar was the acting Chief Justice of the High Court of Andhra Pradesh, at its inception.

About the Opportunity

  • The engagement as Law Clerk will be normally for a period of one year from the date of assignment. However, subject to the approval of the Hon’ble Chief Justice, the period of assignment can be extended for a further period not exceeding four years.
  • The assignment of any Law Clerk may be discontinued even before the completion of one year, without notice if his/her services are found to be unsatisfactory.
  • The candidates should join their assignment as Law Clerk within the period specified in their order of appointment. The request for an extension of time for joining the assignment as Law Clerk may be entertained, at the sole discretion of the Chief Justice.
  • Law Clerk shall not be treated or deemed to be an employee either of the High Court Service or of the Judicial or Judicial Ministerial Service.
  • If a Law Clerk desires to have the assignment terminated before the expiry of the period of assignment, he/she shall give advance notice of a duration of not less than one month to the High Court.

Roles & Responsibilities

A law clerk is Expected to assist in work to Hon’ble Judges primarily in their Judicial and academic side, which may include-

  • Reading of case files, preparation of the case including case summary and notes, and a chronology of dates/events.
  • Identifying facts and issues, questions that may arise or may need to be addressed.
  • Research work including case Laws, Articles for Judicial Orders, and study material for conferences/ seminars/meetings.

Eligibility Criteria

  • A Candidate must not have attained the age of 30 as of 1st January / 1st July, preceding the last date fixed for submission of applications.
  • He/she must be a citizen of India.
  • The candidate should have acquired a Degree in Law from a recognized University, having studied a 5-year regular stream after completing 10+2 years of schooling or who have studied (after 10+2) a regular curriculum degree course followed by a 3-year regular law degree from a University or a college affiliated to a recognized University.
  • The candidate should have passed the degree in Law within 2 years immediately preceding the notification date for the Law Clerks selection.
  • The candidate should not be pursuing any other regular course of study or pursuing any other profession or occupation, which may require them to be away from their place of work during the period of their engagement as a Law Clerk.
  • The candidate should not have enrolled as an Advocate in any State Bar Council.

Salary

35k/month

The duly filled-in applications along with attested copies of necessary documents relating to proof of age, and academic qualifications shall be sent to the Registrar (Recruitment), High Court of A.P. at Amaravati, Nelapadu, Guntur District, A. P, Pincode – 522239 under Registered Post with acknowledgment due, subscribing on postal cover “Application for the post of Law Clerks”.

Application Deadline

The applications shall reach the Registrar on or before July 22, 2023, by 5.00 p.m. in the prescribed format.
