NHRC Recruitment 2026: Joint Director, Assistant Registrar, Research Officer and Inspector Posts

Eligibility: Essential qualifications and experience
Joint Director
This senior post targets officers already serving in analogous positions or with substantial service in Level 11 of the pay matrix, combined with advanced academic qualifications and research experience.
- Deputation source: Central/State Government officers; UT administrations; autonomous/statutory bodies; PSUs; recognised universities; recognised research institutions.
- Experience (any one):
- Holding an analogous post on a regular basis; or
- Five years’ regular service after appointment to a post in Level 11 of the pay matrix (Rs. 67,700–2,08,700) or equivalent.
- Education: Master’s degree in Law or Social Science (Political Science, Sociology, Social Work, Economics, Human Rights, Psychology, Population Studies, Criminology) or Statistics from a recognised university/institute.
- Research experience: Five years’ research experience in Social Science or Statistics.
Assistant Registrar
The Assistant Registrar post is designed for legally trained officers with significant administrative experience at Level 8 or in an analogous role.
- Deputation source: Same as Joint Director (Central/State/UT, autonomous/statutory bodies, PSUs, universities, research institutions).
- Experience (any one):
- Holding an analogous post on a regular basis; or
- Eight years’ regular service after appointment to a post in Level 8 of the pay matrix (Rs. 47,600–1,51,100) or equivalent.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree with Law (LLB) from a recognised university/institute.
Research Officer
Research Officers support the Commission’s investigative and policy work, requiring a strong social-science background and preferably legal training.
- Deputation source: Central/State/UT officers; autonomous/statutory bodies; PSUs; recognised universities; research institutions.
- Experience: Holding an analogous post on a regular basis in the parent cadre/department.
- Education: Master’s degree in Social Science from a recognised university/institute.
- Desirable:
- Bachelor’s degree with Law; and
- Three years’ research experience in any social science.
Inspector
Inspectors are recruited primarily from government services with a background in vigilance, investigation or intelligence work.
- Deputation source: Officers of Central/State Governments and UT administrations.
- Experience (any one):
- Holding an analogous post on a regular basis; or
- Five years’ regular service after appointment as Sub-Inspector in Level 6 of the pay matrix (Rs. 35,400–1,12,400) or equivalent.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree from a recognised university/institute.
- Mandatory experience: Five years’ experience in vigilance, investigation or intelligence work.
- Desirable: Bachelor’s degree with Law.
