NLIU-CRIL Article Writing Competition

The Centre for Research in International Law is organizing an Article Writing Competition (“Competition”), an initiative aimed at promoting academic excellence and research on pressing global issues in international law. The competition seeks to provide a platform for students to engage with contemporary challenges and innovations in the field of international law.. By fostering critical thinking and intellectual dialogue, this event will contribute significantly to academic excellence in the field of international law.

Themes

  1. Global Environmental Law
  2. Trade and Investment Law
  3. Human Rights Law
  4. International Humanitarian Law
  5. International Migration Law
  6. Law of the Sea
  7. International Law and Cyberspace
  8. International Criminal Law

Note: Authors are free to write on any aspect of these themes or on interplay of different themes. They must select a specific aspect of the broader theme(s) selected, to focus on for a more in-depth analysis.

Eligibility

The Competition is open to students currently pursuing undergraduate degree or postgraduate degree in law (3 Year LL.B./5 Year LL.B./LLM/Ph.D.) are eligible to participate.

Participation

The competition will be open to both individual participants and teams of two, with no restrictions on institutional affiliation for team members.

Format

The Competition is structured as a single-phase event focusing on essay submissions. Participants are required to submit original and unpublished essays on the prescribed themes and sub-themes, showcasing their analytical and research abilities.

Registration Fees

Authors are required to pay a fee of INR 250 for single-author submissions and INR 400 for co-authored submissions, with a maximum of two authors permitted per entry.

Submission Requirements

  • The manuscripts may be submitted in the following manner (the word limit is exclusive of the footnotes): Long Article: 5000 – 8000 words.
  • All manuscripts submitted must be original and unpublished. Plagiarism of content as well as that of an idea would lead to a direct rejection of the manuscript. The author(s) of the manuscript bear the responsibility of authorities, facts, or views instated in the manuscript.
  • The Executive Board of CRIL may, at its sole discretion, allow for manuscripts which do not substantially deviate from the given word limits to be considered for publication.
