The Department of Financial Services, Ministry of Finance has issued a vacancy circular for filling existing, anticipated, and unforeseen vacancies for Recovery Officers (along with Registrar/Assistant Registrar) in Debts Recovery Tribunals (DRTs) and Debts Recovery Appellate Tribunals (DRATs) on pure deputation basis, valid up to 30 June 2026. With at least 4 Recovery Officer posts across 39 DRTs/5 DRATs, this recruitment accelerates bank debt recovery amid ₹20 lakh crore NPAs. Nominations must reach the Ministry by 09 February 2026.

DRT/DRAT Framework and Recovery Officer Role

Established under the Recovery of Debts and Bankruptcy Act, 1993 (RDB Act), DRTs/DRATs provide time-bound adjudication for bank loans >₹20 lakh. Recovery Officers (ROs) are quasi-judicial functionaries executing Recovery Certificates (RCs) under Sections 25-28 RDB Act:

  • Attach/sell debtor property.
  • Arrest/imprisonment for wilful default.
  • Coordinate with civil courts/sheriffs.
  • Manage SARFAESI enforcement post-NCLT referrals.

Tenure: 3–4 years (extendable up to 7); age <56 years.
