Eligibility

The posts are open only to serving officers of the Central Government, State Governments, Union Territories, autonomous or statutory bodies and similar organisations, on deputation; fresh candidates, retired officials and private-sector staff are not eligible. For the legal posts: Assistant Legal Aid Advisor (1 post, Level-11) requires an LL.B. with 3 years of legal work, or an LL.M. with 1 year of legal work, in the Central or State Government, Union Territory, public sector undertaking, autonomous or statutory body or recognised research institute, along with holding an analogous post or 5 years of service in Level-10 or Level-9 or 6 years in Level-8. Superintendent (Legal) (1 post, Level-8) requires an LL.B. with 3 years of legal work with the same classes of employers, along with an analogous post or 2 years in Level-7 or 6 years in Level-6; knowledge of administrative or establishment matters or court matters is desirable. Assistant (Legal) (2 posts, Level-7) requires an LL.B. with 2 years of legal work with the same classes of employers, along with an analogous post or 5 years in Level-6. The vacancy circular (No. A/02/2025-NALSA, dated 10 September 2026) prescribes the eligibility for the remaining posts, and an extension notice dated 9 October 2026 extended the last date to 31 October 2026.

How to Apply

Eligible officers must apply in the prescribed proforma (Annexure-A to the vacancy circular), forwarded through their parent department along with attested copies of annual confidential reports for the last five years and vigilance clearance, to The Member Secretary, National Legal Services Authority, 26, Jaisalmer House, Mansingh Road, New Delhi-110011, so as to reach on or before 31 October 2026.

Role and Importance

The legal posts — Assistant Legal Aid Advisor, Superintendent (Legal) and Assistant (Legal) — will support the legal and administrative work of NALSA, the national authority that oversees the legal services authorities across the country, alongside accounts, information technology, secretarial and library posts that keep the organisation running.
